My parents were very frugal people. Having grown up during the Great Depression, they saved what they could, when they could. They did not believe in anything frivolous, expensive or 'flashy.' They did not give dozens of gifts at Christmas, three was usually the maximum number of gifts I would receive. Santa always filled my stocking with useful and practical items such as soap, lotion, shampoo, etc. It never bothered me, I was always excited and thankful for what I was given.
One Christmas stands out as one of my best childhood holidays--Christmas of 1976. It was a dream come true. Mom and Dad surprised me with everything Barbie that I had ever wanted, and then some. I got a Barbie Townhouse, a Barbie Van, Barbie Corvette, a couple new Barbie Dolls and outfits and shoes! So many extras! As an added bonus, I was also given the JAWS game!
I found photo of the items I was given online, as I don't have access to my childhood photos at the moment. These were exactly what I had.
